“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” –Zig Ziglar
Staying motivated when you feel like quitting can be very difficult. In fact, it is so difficult that people often fail at it… but that doesn’t have to be the case with you. Believe it or not, success is a choice… and staying motivated for long enough to see your goals accomplished will undoubtedly cause you to have to get through some hard times.
But it is in the most difficult times that it is the most important to press onward…and here are some tips to help you do exactly that.
1… Keep your goals at the forefront of your vision
It can be easy to throw your goals to the side or to forget them during the tough times… though this is never a good idea. Keeping your goals alive and within your sight are actually great ways to stay motivated when the going gets rough. Keep your eyes on the ‘ball’, because that is where you want to be.
2… Determine within yourself that you will never give up
When you decide for yourself that giving up is simply not going to be an option, than you almost completely rule out failure. Of course, you will still face setbacks, but these are essential to success. By choosing not to give up, you greatly increase your odds of accomplishing your goals and effectively rule out long-term failure.
3… Step away for a little bit
When you face a particularly difficult day, remember this… it is better to step away and to take the day off than to give up altogether. Take a break to do something fun. Go to a movie, hang out with friends, or take your spouse out to dinner. Get away from the source of your discouragement until you have had a chance to rest and recover. Then, when you are ready, come back and hit it again with a fresh mindset and a new perspective.
4… Find a mentor
Finding a successful mentor who has already been through what you are going through and succeeded is incredibly important. A mentor can encourage you, provide advice, and be an understanding ear to listen when you need to vent frustration.
